MAPLEX
Project for Weidmann

This project for Weidmann inlcuded several objects, such as chairs, handbags, stools, wall panels, and lights. The company had been producing a cellulose fiber material for electrical insulation since 1877. We used all their in-house manufacturing capabilities to realize projects that expressed the enormous potential of their material, which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

Maplex® is a next generation material made from 100% wood fibers and zero binders. Therefore, it is biodegradable and recyclable. It can be formed using a variety of processes, and it readily accepts paints, dyes, stains and many adhesives. We worked in several pieces that demonstrate the surprising strenght and formability of the material.

How-to guides were written to help designer and architects understad the capabilities of the material. Documentation was also prepared to prepare Maplex for LEED credits certification.

Project developed with Erika Hanson
Year: 2005
Material: Maplex©
