EMILIANO GODOY (Mexico, 1974)

 

Industrial designer from Pratt Institute 's graduate program (New York, 2004), with a BA degree in industrial design from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City, 1997) and furniture design studies from the Danish Design School (2003). He runs the design firm Godoylab , and is the design director of the furniture manufacturer Pirwi . He teaches industrial design at UNAM' s Centre for Industrial Design Research, and at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, ITESM , and has thought design at the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico) and at the Pratt Institute (New York). He is a staff editor of the quarterly architecture and design magazine Arquine , where he periodically writes reviews and essays, is part of the design collective NEL, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of the UNESCO/Felissimo Social Design Network .

 

Emiliano Godoy has worked for companies such as Nouvel, Weidmann, Lacoste, Pepsico, Holland Chemical International (HCI), Pipeline Integrity International (PII), Pipetronix, Gamesa, Frito Lay/Sabritas, WESCO Distribution, el Museo de la Ciudad de México, Peñafiel and Allegro, among others.

•  Second place in furniture, Cuarta Bienal Nacional de Diseño (Fourth National Design Biennial), INBA, with the pieces Piasa , APC and Árbol , Mexico City, Mexico (2007)

 

•  Conduit Award for the design A place to hang your hat , Conduit 2005: Between Landscape and Marketplace (Conduit National Design Competition), New York, USA (2005)

 

•  Bronze Leaf at the International Furniture Design Award , Asahikawa 2005, for the Knit Chair , with funding and logistical support by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) and the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores for the shipping of the piece to Japan. Emiliano Godoy is the first Latinamerican designer to ever receive an award at this competition (2005)
